Jakarta Police collared 2,000 members ahead of the Indonesian vice presidential candidate debate


JAKARTA: The Jakarta Metropolitan Police deployed approximately 2,000 members to maintain security during the vice presidential candidate debate ahead of the 2024 Indonesian Election.

The debate will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Sunday (Jan 21), Antara reported.

Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Head, Senior Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi in a written statement on Saturday (Jan 20) said there were no road closures in the surrounding area during the debate.

"Therefore, we ask for support and cooperation from all parties...," he said.

Meanwhile, the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU) announced that 11 panel members have confirmed their willingness to participate and have been quarantined for two days since Friday (Jan 18).

The panelists are mostly academics and practitioners who are members of civil society organizations.

The debate series is part of the 2024 Indonesian Election campaign.

The fourth debate will feature three vice presidential candidates namely Muhaimin Iskandar, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Mahfud MD.

Among the topics that will be highlighted are related to natural resource issues, indigenous communities, the environment and energy.
