Power outages, cyber attacks between Absolute Defense Day simulations.

SINGAPORE: Study in the 'dark' and 'hot'.

That's what the students and teachers at Jurong West Secondary School went through when there was an electrical 'disruption' on Thursday morning (Feb 15).

In fact, the electricity supply in 30 classrooms and the school's canteen was turned off for 70 minutes for a simulation exercise in conjunction with Absolute Defense Day this year.

Disruption of electricity supply, food and water rations occurred in several locations across the country under an exercise in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of absolute defense in Singapore.

The purpose is to test the level of readiness of the local population to face an emergency.

"I feel like it's hot because we usually turn on the fan. It's usually cool but suddenly there are no lights, the fan doesn't work either," said Emilda Syazira Zainal to reporter Rosli A Razak.

Malay language teacher, Nurulhuda Ahmad took advantage of the opportunity to teach and hold a discussion about the importance of Absolute Defence.

"Today we learned about disturbances. They have no fans and no wind. This makes them feel a bit restless and restless, also the heat. They think 'I have an idea I want to express about the importance of Absolute Defence,'" he told BERITA Mediacorp.

EMPHASIZE THE STUDENT'S ROLE

The idea and role of students when faced with such disturbances was also emphasized by the Second Minister of Education and Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman who was also present at the school.

He also reminded the students about how to prepare themselves to face a similar situation.

Dr Maliki also took the time to attend a character and citizenship education (CCE) class.

At Cedar Girls' High School, the students were given an idea of what it would be like if Singapore faced a food shortage problem.

No food is sold in the school canteen and students are given food packs.

PEOPLE'S RESILIENCE IN NATIONAL SECURITY

In addition to students at school, the general public also went through a simulation of Absolute Defense Day such as in the central business district (CBD).

They are faced with a situation where there is a power outage, water supply and also an attempted cyber attack.

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the resilience of the people in national security.

"The most critical factor in defending our security is the determination and determination of our people. Ultimately, we all have a role to play in defending Singapore," said DPM Wong.

The 'Exercise SG Ready' simulation exercise will be carried out until the 29th of this month, involving participants in more than 500 buildings, including schools and offices
